Plug in a MIDI keyboard and learn to read music by playing it. Something appears on the staff, you play it on your real piano, and you see straight away how you did. Misses come back until they stop being misses.

Practice: real music

Load any of 69 pieces, from Ode to Joy to Clair de Lune and the Fantaisie-Impromptu, or your own MusicXML. Read it in wait mode, where the cursor holds until your hands land the notes, or tempo mode, one hand or both.

Train: nine modes

• Key Signatures, Harmony Compass and Chord Progressions

Exam mode gives every mode a rank, and the Progress and Analytics screens show what you have mastered and what still trips you up.

Siege: a tower defence you play by reading

Enemies march on your keep, each carrying music: a note, an interval, a chord, a seventh, on a real staff. Play it and the keep fires. Endless waves, each in its own key. Seven bosses with dark battle themes you play back bar by bar. Read cleanly and time stops: play the scale and a sweep of light clears the road. A card after every wave, a merchant after every boss, and an Armoury of upgrades between runs.
